I am not too sure who's writtings read like Karl Marx on ecstasy, but certainly those who claim that resources are scarce and yet defend an economy thriving for people to consume always more seem to have gone on a very bad trip.
At least, they could try to be coherent. If resources are indeed scarce, then maintaining a materialistic value system and spending billions in advertisements to encourage their (over)consumption is irrational and ultimately suicidal.
We can't expect to get away with an irrational economic system on a global scale. And yes, even abundant resources get scarce when they are badly shared, unproperly distributed and wasted in excess.
