You are mistaking the notion of choice and the notion of scarcity.

Yes, one has to make choices, even when ones lives in abundance. That has nothing to do with scarcity, and everything to do with the human experience.

As for GDP, it fails to measure the key elements of a well lived human live: well being, contentment, self realization, and measure success to the limited lense of production of goods and services. Coupled with the compulsive need for growth it becomes unsustainable humanly and ecologically.

Not making the difference between having to make choices and being in scarcity is certainly not a justification for the unsustainable "never enough" doctrine of the current economy.
